La (re)Creación De Las Aves

La Creación De Las Aves is a 1957 painting by Remedios Varo, a renowned artist most often associated with the Surrealist movement. This project sought to add a new dimension to the historical work using the tools and technology of today. The painting brings together science and the arts through magical realism. I could imagine the open beakers and tubes coming to life within the confines of the static painting. Although I've seen the fine detail of this work in-person, what I was left to work with was a small digital representation. Thus, it was comical that the only way I could integrate movement that looked of the painting was to use stop-motion techniques with rudimentary materials like water, flour, thyme and glitter. Retranslating those frames into the digital environment with some manipulation and a bit of foley created a living painting.
