Riso Shining

2024 | Collaborators: Jarin Moriguchi, Ana Maria, Eunbee Lee and Zane

This 11 second clip was the result of a riso-animation workshop led by Lisa Armstrong at UIC. Our group sought to reframe a clip of popular media. Since someone in our group had a love for horror, the terrifying scene from The Shining seemed like the right pick. We reprinted the frames on the risograph and then doodled over them before rescanning back into motion. Several layers of manipulation neutralized the horror and recontextualized the famous clip.
